Too-Ashuu, the ski base by the pass on the road to Osh

Too-Ashuu ski base, 120–140 km from Bishkek on the road to Osh: 3 lifts, about 7 km of runs, a 1,500-som day pass (2024/25). Open at weekends only.

Too-Ashuu only opens on Saturdays and Sundays, so there's no point driving up on a weekday. The easiest option is the all-in package, which cost 3,000 som in 2024/25 and covered the ride from Bishkek, rental and the lift pass. The base sits by the Too-Ashuu pass on the Bishkek–Osh highway, 120–140 km from the capital. The skiresort.com catalogue gives it three lifts and about 7 km of runs between 2,550 and 2,930 m, while the Tourism Department puts it at 3,400 m. Either way, it's the highest base in Chui region, and in 2024 its season started as early as late November. It is run by the Baytur company.

How to get to Too-Ashuu

  1. Take the Bishkek–Osh highway. Head south out of Bishkek; the base is 120–140 km away, about two and a half hours. The road climbs towards the pass, so you need winter tyres, and an early start is best.
  2. Or buy the package. In 2024/25 the base sold a 3,000-som package including transfer, rental and the lift pass. It's handy if you don't have a car or would rather not drive a winter pass yourself.
  3. Watch the Emergencies Ministry warnings. Avalanche warnings on the Bishkek–Osh road usually cover sections further south, at km 198–255 near the Ala-Bel and Chychkan passes, but after heavy snowfall it's worth reading them the evening before.

Lifts and runs

According to skiresort.com the base has three lifts and about 7 km of runs; 24.kg counts three runs. Sources disagree on altitude, with 2,550–2,930 m in the catalogue and 3,400 m from the Tourism Department. We couldn't find a public description of what type of lifts they are. There's no night skiing.

How much it costs

The base hasn't published 2026/27 prices yet. These are the latest known prices, from 2024/25, compiled by 24.kg, which noted that it had taken them from the internet.

ItemPrice (2024/25)
Adult day pass1,500 som
Half-day pass950 som
Child day pass1,000 som
Package: transfer, rental, pass3,000 som
Equipment rental1,100–1,200 som
Instructor2,000 som per hour
Cottagefrom 8,000 som

If you drive yourself, the pass and rental together come to 2,600–2,700 som, so the 3,000-som package with transport included is clearly the better deal.

Where to stay

The base has cottages, which cost from 8,000 som in 2024/25. Most people come up from Bishkek for the day, and staying over only makes sense if you want to ski both days of the weekend. Further along the same highway, beyond the pass in the Suusamyr valley, Suus Lodge runs snowcat skiing.

Who it suits

Too-Ashuu is for people in Bishkek who want higher snow than Chunkurchak or ZiL can offer and don't mind two and a half hours in the car for it. In 2024 it drew 250–300 people a weekend, so it's usually far less crowded than the bases close to the city. For a full week of skiing, Karakol is the better choice, and every base in the country is compared in our guide to Kyrgyzstan's ski resorts.

Avalanches and safety

In December 2024 the Tourism Department, the Tourism Development Fund and the Emergencies Ministry inspected the base before the season and declared it ready. The base doesn't publicly mention any off-piste patrol or avalanche service, so only head into untracked terrain with a guide and an avalanche kit. Read our avalanche safety guide before you go. The emergency number is 112.
