Days 1–6: Bishkek, Issyk-Kul, Karakol and Song-Kul
The first six days follow the 7-day itinerary: Ala-Archa near Bishkek, Burana Tower and the petroglyphs of Cholpon-Ata, the town of Karakol, a night at the Altyn-Arashan hot springs (4x4 transfers: arashantransfer.com), the red rocks of Jeti-Oguz and Skazka canyon, eagle hunters in Bokonbaevo and a yurt night on Song-Kul. With ten days you can afford a full night in Altyn-Arashan rather than a day trip, or swap it for the 3-day Ala-Kul trek if you drop day 10.
Day 7: Song-Kul to Naryn
Leave the lake by the southern road over the Moldo-Ashuu pass with its switchbacks — one of the most scenic drives in the country (check road condition; it is gravel and can be closed after rain or early snow). Naryn is a long riverside town and the regional centre; overnight in a guesthouse or hotel. If you prefer a fixed road, return to Kochkor and drive to Naryn on the asphalt (≈110 km from Kochkor).
Day 8: Tash-Rabat caravanserai
From Naryn drive 50 km to At-Bashy and then up a side valley to Tash-Rabat, a stone caravanserai of the 15th century at about 3,200 m, on a branch of the Silk Road to Kashgar. Walk or ride to viewpoints above the valley; strong walkers can do a day hike toward the pass overlooking Chatyr-Kul (a border-zone area — check the permit rules). Overnight in a yurt camp next to the caravanserai. More history in Silk Road sites.
Day 9: the long drive back
About 480 km and 8 hours back via Naryn, Kochkor and Balykchy. Break the drive in Kochkor for lunch and a felt workshop.
Day 10: Bishkek or Chon-Kemin
Use the last day as a buffer for weather or delays: Osh Bazaar, museums, or a half-day in Chon-Kemin valley (≈2 h from Bishkek) if your flight is late.

FAQ
What is the best 10-day route in Kyrgyzstan?
For a first trip: Bishkek → Issyk-Kul north shore → Karakol → south shore → Song-Kul → Naryn → Tash-Rabat → Bishkek, about 1,900 km. It covers lakes, mountains, yurts and the Silk Road without the long trip south.
How much does a 10-day trip to Kyrgyzstan cost?
Roughly $500–700 per person on a budget, $1,000–1,600 mid-range with a shared driver and $2,000–3,000 in comfort, excluding flights (as of 2026).
Do I need a permit for Tash-Rabat?
No permit is needed for Tash-Rabat itself. You need a border-zone permit (≈$35–40, 5–7 working days) for Chatyr-Kul lake or the Torugart pass area.
Can I do Osh instead of Naryn in 10 days?
Yes, but it’s rushed: Bishkek – Osh is 600–680 km by road (10–12 h) or a 1-hour flight. With 10 days, a flight to Osh and a shorter Issyk-Kul loop works; see the 14-day itinerary for the full version.
