**Prices for core tourism services in Kyrgyzstan rose by about 57% in US dollars (+62% in som) between 2021 and 2026** — roughly +9.4% a year in USD and +10.1% in KGS. Our basket index (driver 35%, guide 25%, guesthouse 20%, yurt camp 20%; 2021 = 100) reached **156.7 in 2026** (bootstrap 95% CI 136–175). The biggest jump came in 2024–2025; in 2026 growth stalled (−2% to +3% depending on deduplication; within noise at n=11–54). Current medians (2025–2026): a guide costs **$70–75 a day** (≈$71 after deduplication), a car with driver **$130 a day** or **$0.60 per km** (≈52 som/km), a guesthouse bed from **1,500 som** and a yurt-camp bed from **2,000 som** per person per night.

The figures come from 1,345 cleaned price observations in supplier questionnaires (2021–2026) and 239 price mentions in a professional Telegram community of Kyrgyzstan's tourism industry (~2,100 message authors, 2020–2026), analysed by Ala-Too Digital. Only aggregates are published: medians and interquartile ranges (IQR, q1–q3). The dataset is released under CC BY 4.0.

## Kyrgyzstan tourism price index by year (2021 = 100)

The index is a Laspeyres-type index of medians from supplier questionnaires only. The som index uses the same medians converted at each year's approximate average exchange rate.

| Year | Index, USD | Index, som | Driver/day | Guide/day | Guesthouse (min) | Yurt camp (min) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 100.0 | 100.0 | 100.0 | 100.0 | 100.0 | 100.0 |
| 2022 | 109.5 | 108.8 | 100.0 | 100.0 | 130.8 | 116.5 |
| 2023 | 113.2 | 117.9 | 95.4 | 110.0 | 110.0 | 151.6 |
| 2024 | 132.8 | 137.7 | 100.0 | 120.0 | 146.3 | 192.9 |
| 2025 | 152.5 | 157.4 | 125.0 | 141.6 | 162.7 | 204.0 |
| 2026 | **156.7** | **162.0** | 135.0 | 157.5 | 146.7 | 203.6 |

Component sub-indices (USD) are shown to the right. Single-year medians with fewer than 15 observations are unstable — for example, the guesthouse component dips in 2026 while yurt camps flatten — so read the trend over three-year periods rather than year to year.

## How much have guides, drivers, guesthouses and yurts gone up since 2021?

**Yurt camps rose the most: the minimum price per person per night doubled, from $11.2 to $22.9 (950 → 2,000 som).** Next come the driver's per-km rate (+79%), the guide's day rate (+57%), the minimum guesthouse price (+25–55%, unstable at n≈20) and the driver's day rate (+35–42%). Hostel beds barely moved.

| Service | 2021 median (n) | 2026 median (n) | Change | In som, 2021 → 2026 |

## What do guides, drivers and yurts cost in Kyrgyzstan in 2025–2026?

For current prices we pool 2025 and 2026 to get larger samples. These are supplier asking prices (mostly quoted to tour operators), not retail prices on booking platforms.

| Service (2025–2026) | Median | IQR (q1–q3) | n |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guide, per day | $70–75 (≈$71 after deduplication; ≈6,200–6,560 som) | $55–90 | 105 (101 after deduplication) |
| Car with driver, per day | $130 (≈11,350 som) | $100–150 | 57 |
| Car with driver, per km | $0.60 (≈52 som/km) | $0.57–0.65 | 52 |
| Self-drive rental (almost all 4×4), per day | $125 | $101–150 | 10 |
| Guesthouse, per person per night (min. / max. price) | 1,500 / 2,100 som | — | — |
| Yurt camp, per person per night (min. / max. price) | 2,000 / 2,600 som | — | — |
| Hostel bed | ≈875 som (≈$10) | — | — |

### Car with driver by vehicle class (2024–2026)

| Class | $/day, median (IQR), n | $/km, median, n |
|---|---|---|
| 4×4 (Land Cruiser, Prado, Sequoia…) | 140 (100–150), 45 | 0.60, 41 |
| Minivan (Delica, Alphard, Sienna…) | 107 (100–142), 10 | 0.54, 8 |
| Bus (Sprinter, Hiace, Crafter…) | 100 (100–122), 11 | 0.61, 14 |
| Crossover (RAV4, Highlander…) | 100 (100–100), 5 | 0.46, 3 |
| Sedan |

The community is dominated by off-road drivers: 4×4s appear in 53% of questionnaires where the vehicle could be identified. Sedans, city taxis and ride-hailing are barely represented. For travellers' ranges by class, see our [private driver guide](https://visitalatoo.com/guide/private-driver-kyrgyzstan/).

### Accommodation by region (minimum price, $/person/night, 2024–2026)

- Guesthouses: Issyk-Kul region 17.1 (n=36), Naryn region 17.1 (n=13); Chuy region ≈20 across all years (n=13).

- Yurt camps: Issyk-Kul region 21.7 (n=22), Naryn region 22.8 (n=19) — the Naryn figure covers Song-Kul; see [Song-Kul yurt camps](https://visitalatoo.com/experiences/song-kul-yurt-camps/).

### Chat cross-check

Prices mentioned in the community chat are lower for drivers: a 2025–2026 median of **$92 a day** (n=38) against $130 in questionnaires, because chat posts often state the client's budget rather than the supplier's asking price. Guides match closely: $70 (n=17) in chat versus $70–75 in questionnaires. Other chat medians for 2025–2026: a café lunch or dinner ≈900 som (n=16; 560 som in 2020–2022), a horse ≈3,000 som a day (n=5; 1,200 som in 2020–2022). A shared-taxi seat Bishkek – Karakol was quoted at **1,000–1,200 som** in 2026 (n=6); see [Bishkek to Karakol](https://visitalatoo.com/guide/bishkek-to-karakol/).

## Dollarisation: drivers and guides quote in USD, guesthouses and yurts in som

**96.5% of drivers and 95% of guides state their price in US dollars, while 73% of guesthouses and yurt camps quote in som.** Hostels (37% in USD) and hotels (43%) sit in between; tenge and euro appear only occasionally. The transport-and-guiding segment is priced like an export service for foreign clients and tour operators, while accommodation is priced for the local cost base. For travellers this means exchange-rate risk sits mostly on the driver and guide part of the budget. For policy it is a marker of how much of the sector earns foreign currency — relevant to our work on [tourism exports](https://visitalatoo.com/research/tourism-exports/) and the [shadow economy in tourism](https://visitalatoo.com/research/shadow-economy-tourism/), since cash dollar payments are the hardest to trace.

| Supplier type | Price quoted in USD |
|---|---|
| Drivers | 96.5% |
| Guides | 95% |
| Hotels | 43% |
| Hostels | 37% |
| Guesthouses | 27% |
| Yurt camps | 27% |

## Is there still a premium for guides with rare languages?

**No longer.** Across 2021–2026, guides offering a rarer foreign language (German, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Turkish, Hebrew and others) asked a median of $60 a day versus $50 for guides with English only. In 2024–2026 both groups ask **$70**. Cultural and trekking guides have converged too, at about $70–71.

| Guide group | 2021–2026, median (IQR), n | 2024–2026, median, n |
|---|---|---|
| Russian/Kyrgyz only | $55 (40–74), 22 | $60, 9 |
| + English (no other foreign language) | $50 (50–76), 143 | $70 (50–85), 65 |
| + rare language | $60 (50–80), 169 | $70 (50–89), 78 |
| Cultural guide | $60 (50–85), 145 | $71, 73 |
| Trekking / mountains / ski | $50 (50–73), 189 | $70, 79 |

One reading: the general rise in guide rates has caught up with what language specialists charged before, so narrow language specialisation no longer pays extra. For visitors from Germany, Korea or China this is good news — a guide in your language costs about the same as an English-speaking one.

## Practical budgeting takeaways for 2026

- **Driver:** plan on ≈$100–150 a day for a 4×4, or ≈50–60 som/km ($0.55–0.70). Many drivers combine both ("$100/day + km"); ask whether fuel, the driver's food and lodging, and the empty return run are included.

- **One-way transfers:** at $0.60/km, 400 km one way is ≈$240 before any return mileage — cheap one-way quotes usually mean a sedan or a shared ride. Check current prices.

- **Guide:** ≈$60–90 a day; a rare language costs about the same or up to ≈$100.

- **Beds:** guesthouse ≈1,000–2,500 som per person; yurt camp with meals ≈1,500–3,000 som; comfort yurts ≈$30–60. Carry som for accommodation.

- **Retail vs B2B:** these are supplier prices. On booking platforms and through agencies add their commission.

- **Next season:** prices rose ~9–10% a year on average, but growth stalled in 2026 (−2% to +3%); leave a buffer and confirm in writing.

## Methodology and limitations

### Methodology

- **Sources:** 48,328 messages from a professional Telegram community of Kyrgyzstan's tourism industry (~2,100 message authors, 2020–2026), of which 1,014+ contain a currency sign; and 1,128 supplier questionnaires (2021–2026) from guides, drivers, rental firms, guesthouses, yurt camps, hotels, hostels and cafés. Activity questionnaires were excluded because their prices are not comparable.

- **Extraction:** a rule-based parser reads numbers, currencies, ranges (midpoint) and units (per day, per km, per person per night); package and per-room prices, salaries, tickets, fuel and other non-service prices are excluded. Plausibility bounds are set per category.

- **Clean sample:** 1,645 parsed observations → **1,584 clean** (1,345 questionnaire, 239 chat) after de-duplication (repeat posts, price lists collapsed to a median), plus 61 outliers flagged by Tukey's 1.5×IQR rule on log values and excluded from statistics.

- **Index:** Laspeyres index of medians, Σ wᵢ · medianᵢ,ₜ / medianᵢ,₂₀₂₁, weights driver/day 0.35, guide/day 0.25, guesthouse min. 0.20, yurt min. 0.20. Base 2021 (no 2020 questionnaires; the 2020 chat is almost empty because of COVID). Confidence interval: bootstrap of medians, 2,000 resamples.
 - **Robustness:** after deduplicating questionnaires the 2026 index is 160, and ≈162 with the 2021–22 structure held fixed; a panel of the same suppliers is too small (n≤4) for a separate estimate.

- **Exchange rates** (approximate annual averages based on NBKR, som per $): 2021 84.6; 2022 84.1; 2023 88.1; 2024 87.7; 2025 87.3; 2026 87.5. Each observation is converted at its own year's rate.

### Limitations

- **Self-selection:** only community members and suppliers who filled in a questionnaire are included — mainly B2B suppliers to tour operators, not "walk-in" prices.

- **B2B character of the chat:** chat prices are often client budgets, so the index uses questionnaires only and the chat serves as a cross-check.

- **Heuristic classification:** the chat parser was checked independently on 400 hand-labelled messages (request precision 76–92%, recall ≈45%); spot checks found 10–20% category errors in noisy categories, partly absorbed by medians and outlier rules.

- **Questionnaires ≠ the whole market:** the sample changes each year, but composition does not inflate the rise: the share of 4×4s among drivers fell (67% → 59%), and an index holding the 2021–22 structure fixed (vehicle class, guide language, lodging region) is even higher — ≈+62% vs +53% unadjusted. Sedans, taxis, hotels and whole-car transfers are thin; medians with n < 15 are unstable.

- Questionnaires rarely say whether fuel (drivers) or meals (accommodation, usually breakfast only) are included.

## FAQ

### How much have tourism prices in Kyrgyzstan risen since 2021?

About 57% in US dollars and 62% in som between 2021 and 2026, or roughly 9–10% a year, according to our index of guide, driver, guesthouse and yurt-camp medians. Most of the rise came in 2024–2025; in 2026 prices grew only about 3%.

### How much does a guide cost in Kyrgyzstan per day?

The 2025–2026 median in supplier questionnaires is $70–75 a day (≈$71 after deduplication, n=101; IQR $55–90), about 6,200–6,560 som. Prices in the community chat are similar at $70. Plan on roughly $60–90 a day; a guide with a rarer language costs about the same or up to around $100.

### How much is a car with driver in Kyrgyzstan per day or per km?

The 2025–2026 median is $130 a day (IQR $100–150) or $0.60 per km (about 52 som/km). 4×4s run about $140 a day, minivans $107 and Sprinter-type buses $100. Ask whether fuel, the driver's lodging and the return run are included.

### How much does a yurt camp cost per night in Kyrgyzstan?

The 2025–2026 median minimum price is 2,000 som per person per night and the median maximum 2,600 som, usually with meals. In Naryn region, which includes Song-Kul, the minimum median is about $22.8. Comfort camps cost more; check current prices directly.

### Why do Kyrgyz drivers and guides quote prices in dollars?

96.5% of drivers and 95% of guides in our data quote in USD because they mainly serve foreign clients and tour operators, while 73% of guesthouses and yurt camps quote in som. This dollarisation means exchange-rate swings mostly affect the transport and guiding part of a budget.

### Where do these price data come from?

From 1,345 supplier-questionnaire prices (2021–2026) and 239 price mentions in a professional Telegram community of Kyrgyzstan's tourism industry (~2,100 message authors), analysed by Ala-Too Digital in 2026. Only aggregates are published; the sample is self-selected and mostly B2B.
