## Days 1–10: the north

The first ten days follow the [10-day itinerary](https://visitalatoo.com/itineraries/kyrgyzstan-10-days/) with one extra mountain day around [Karakol](https://visitalatoo.com/destinations/karakol/). Use days 4–5 for the [Ala-Kul trek](https://visitalatoo.com/experiences/trekking-ala-kul/) (if you are fit — it needs 3 days, so start on day 3 afternoon) or for an easier combination of [Altyn-Arashan](https://visitalatoo.com/destinations/altyn-arashan/) hot springs (4x4 transfer via [arashantransfer.com](https://arashantransfer.com)) and a day in [Jyrgalan](https://visitalatoo.com/destinations/jyrgalan/). Then the south shore of Issyk-Kul, [Song-Kul](https://visitalatoo.com/destinations/song-kul/), Naryn and [Tash-Rabat](https://visitalatoo.com/destinations/naryn-tash-rabat/).

## Day 11: Fly to Osh

Bishkek – Osh is 600–680 km by road (10–12 hours over two high passes), so most travellers fly: about one hour, several daily flights; book online in advance for better fares. In [Osh](https://visitalatoo.com/destinations/osh/), the country’s oldest city, climb Sulaiman-Too, a sacred mountain and the first UNESCO World Heritage site in Kyrgyzstan, and walk through the huge Jayma bazaar. Food here differs from the north: try Osh plov and samsa from tandoor ovens.

## Day 12: Uzgen and the road to Arslanbob

Drive 55 km east to Uzgen to see the 11th–12th-century Karakhanid minaret and mausoleums with intricate brickwork (see [Silk Road sites](https://visitalatoo.com/experiences/silk-road/)). Continue via Jalal-Abad to [Arslanbob](https://visitalatoo.com/destinations/arslanbob/), a large Uzbek-speaking village at the edge of one of the world’s largest wild walnut forests.

## Day 13: Arslanbob

Walk to the big and small waterfalls, through the walnut groves and up to viewpoints over the Fergana Valley. The local community-based tourism office arranges homestays, guides and horses. In September and early October you can see the walnut harvest.

## Day 14: Back to Osh and fly out

About 4 hours back to Osh airport for an international or domestic flight. Alternatively, fly from Jalal-Abad to Bishkek (check schedules).

## Alternative: Alay valley and Lenin Peak

Mountain lovers can replace days 12–14 with the Alay valley: Osh → Sary-Mogol (≈5 h), the Tulpar-Kul lake and a day hike from the base camp under 7,134 m Lenin Peak (see [Alay and Lenin Peak](https://visitalatoo.com/destinations/alay-lenin-peak/) and [mountaineering](https://visitalatoo.com/experiences/mountaineering/)). This works in July–August; the area is close to the Tajik border, so carry your passport.

## FAQ

### Is two weeks enough to see Kyrgyzstan?

Yes for the highlights: 14 days cover Issyk-Kul, Karakol, Song-Kul, Tash-Rabat, Osh and Arslanbob, about 2,300 km by road plus one domestic flight. Remote areas like Kel-Suu or Enilchek need extra days and permits.

### Should I drive or fly from Bishkek to Osh?

Fly if time matters: about 1 hour versus 10–12 hours by road (600–680 km). Driving is scenic — Too-Ashuu pass, Suusamyr, Toktogul reservoir — and makes sense if you plan stops at Sary-Chelek or Arslanbob on the way.

### How much does a 2-week trip to Kyrgyzstan cost?

Roughly $750–1,000 per person on a budget, $1,500–2,300 mid-range and $3,000–4,500 in comfort, excluding international flights (as of 2026).

### Is the south of Kyrgyzstan too hot in summer?

Osh and the Fergana Valley often exceed 35 °C in July–August, while Arslanbob (≈1,600 m) is cooler. Plan city sightseeing early in the morning or consider June and September.
