## Quick answer
- Citizens of 60+ countries (EU, UK, US, Canada, Japan, Korea, Australia and others) enter Kyrgyzstan visa-free, typically for up to 60 days (as of 11.2026, check before travel).
- Everyone else applies online at evisa.e-gov.kg — tourist e-visas of up to 90 days; plan at least 1–2 weeks ahead.
- Russia, Kazakhstan and other EAEU citizens have no fixed visa-free limit and can enter with a national ID / internal passport (check before travel).
- New in September 2026: Decree No. 600 changed registration — for many Western passports the stay without registration was cut from 60 to 30 days.
- Overstays are tracked electronically; under Decree No. 602 (2026) an over-stayer can be refused visa-free entry next time.

## Key facts

| | |

| Visa-free countries | 60+ (lists differ by source) |
| Typical visa-free stay | Up to 60 days |
| E-visa portal | evisa.e-gov.kg |

**Short answer:** if you hold an EU, UK, US, Canadian, Japanese, Korean, Australian or similar passport, you do not need a visa for Kyrgyzstan — you get a stamp at Manas airport and can usually stay up to 60 days. Kyrgyzstan grants visa exemption to citizens of more than 60 countries, and everyone else can apply online for an e-visa of up to 90 days at **evisa.e-gov.kg**. Since September 2026 the more important detail for longer trips is registration, not the visa itself.

## Do I need a visa for Kyrgyzstan?
Kyrgyzstan has one of the most liberal entry regimes in Central Asia. Visa-free groups (as of 11.2026, always check the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before travel):

| Group | Examples | Stay | Document |
|---|---|---|---|
| EAEU and some CIS | Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan | No fixed visa-free limit; registration rules apply | Passport; RU/KZ can use internal passport / ID card (check) |
| 60-day visa-free | EU states, UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, Norway, Turkey and others | Up to 60 days | Passport |
| Special terms | Mongolia, Ukraine (90 days), Moldova (90 in 180 from 23.09.2026), Malaysia (30 days) | 30–90 days | Passport |
| Everyone else | India, China, Pakistan, Iran, most of Africa and Latin America | E-visa up to 90 days | E-visa printout + passport |
Different websites quote 47, 55, 60 or 62 visa-free countries because the list has been edited several times since 2012. Do not rely on a number — check your own passport on the MFA website or the e-visa portal.

## How to apply for a Kyrgyzstan e-visa
The e-visa is the digital front door of Kyrgyz tourism: the whole process is online, payment is by bank card and the visa arrives as a PDF.

- Open **evisa.e-gov.kg** (the only official portal — ignore look-alike agency sites that add fees).
- Choose the visa type: tourist (T) or business (B), single or multiple entry, up to 90 days.
- Upload a passport scan and a photo; some nationalities need an invitation letter (LOI) from a Kyrgyz tour operator.
- Pay online. Consular fees depend on the type and nationality — typically tens of US dollars (check the portal).
- Wait for approval (often several working days — apply 1–2 weeks ahead) and print the PDF.
E-visas are accepted at Manas (Bishkek) and Osh airports and at the main land checkpoints such as Ak-Jol on the Kazakhstan border (check your entry point on the portal before you buy tickets). If you plan to arrive via [Almaty and the Korday crossing](https://visitalatoo.com/guide/almaty-to-bishkek/), confirm that your e-visa type covers that checkpoint.

## The 60-day rule and the end of visa runs
Since autumn 2023 Kyrgyzstan has tightened repeated visa-free stays. Under the rules introduced in October 2023, a visa-free foreigner who has used 60 days and is not registered must leave and generally may not return visa-free for a period afterwards — the so-called "60 in 120" logic that ended unlimited visa runs to Almaty. Interpretation has shifted several times, so if you plan more than 60 days in any four-month window, get an e-visa or a residence permit rather than gambling at the border.

**Myth vs fact:** "You can stay forever by hopping to Almaty every two months" — _fact:_ border officers see your full entry/exit history in the electronic migration system, and repeated short exits no longer reset the clock.

## What changed in September 2026
- **Decree No. 600 (signed 04.09.2026)** replaced the 2016 registration rules. According to the state service Kyzmat, for citizens of listed countries — including the USA, Germany, Japan and Canada — the stay without registration was cut from 60 to 30 days. If you stay longer than 30 days, register at your address. Details: [registration for foreigners](https://visitalatoo.com/guide/registration/).
- **Decree No. 602 (signed 07.09.2026)** on overstays: a foreigner who exceeded the permitted stay can be refused entry under the visa-free regime on their next arrival.
- Moldova gets 90 days visa-free in each 180-day period from 23.09.2026.

## Do I need anything else at the border?
Usually only a passport valid for the length of your stay (6 months of validity is a safe rule), and an e-visa printout if applicable. Officers rarely ask for return tickets or hotel bookings, but have them on your phone. Customs: declare cash above the equivalent of $10,000. For trips to Enilchek, Sary-Jaz, Torugart or Kel-Suu you need an extra [border-zone permit](https://visitalatoo.com/guide/border-permits/) — the visa is not enough.

## Visas for a multi-country trip
Most visitors combine Kyrgyzstan with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, which are also visa-free for many Western passports. Each country counts its own days. ## FAQ

### Do US and UK citizens need a visa for Kyrgyzstan?

No. US and UK citizens enter visa-free and can usually stay up to 60 days. Since September 2026 the stay without registration for US passports is 30 days, so if you stay longer than a month, register at your address or ask your hotel to do it. Check the MFA site before travel.

### How long does a Kyrgyzstan e-visa take?

Usually several working days, but plan 1–2 weeks. Apply only at evisa.e-gov.kg, pay by card and print the PDF. Some nationalities need an invitation letter from a Kyrgyz tour operator, which adds a few days to the process.

### Can Russians enter Kyrgyzstan with an internal passport?

Yes, citizens of Russia and Kazakhstan can generally enter with an internal passport or national ID card under EAEU agreements, and there is no fixed visa-free limit. Registration rules still apply for longer stays. Confirm current rules with your airline before departure.

### What happens if I overstay in Kyrgyzstan?

Expect a fine at departure and a risk of being refused visa-free entry next time: Decree No. 602 of September 2026 allows border guards to deny visa-free entry to anyone who overstayed. Overstays are recorded automatically in the electronic migration system.

### How many countries are visa-free for Kyrgyzstan?

More than 60. Sources quote 55 to 62 because the list has been edited repeatedly; most EU, North American, East Asian and CIS passports are included. Check your nationality on the official MFA or e-visa website before buying tickets.
